Online Identity
Online identity
It's our digital footprint, with such details as our email address, date of birth, bank details, and even our purchasing habits on online stores or our online identity is all the information that we leave on the internet. Online identity goes beyond what we do online. It also verifies that we are who we say we are.
There are two types of online identity:
1. positive online identity= is a online identity where you leave a good digital footprint. simply put, your digital footprint is a trail you leave behind on the internet. If you Googled your name and found no trace of you or what you find is good then you have created a positive online presence.
2. Negative Online Identity=is an identity that is formed by identifying with roles opposed to societal expectations.
The ways to maintain a positive online identity are:
1.Safeguard your passwords and change them often
2.Mark your profiles as private
3.Posting positively online
4.Think before you post
5.Don't respond to inappropriate requests
Benefits of maintaining positive online identity are:
1. You can represent yourself
2. Expression without judgement
3. Find a hobby and share it
4. Join a community or group
Evaluate your online identity.
My online identity is positive identity as I did not post anything that oppose the roles of societal expectations and when I googled my name I found no trace of myself.
